The following is a copy of a letter written shortly after Beverly & Eliza moved to Texas. It was written to their children that were still in Lincoln Co., Missouri.

Cooke Co., Texas

December the 9. 1879

Dear Children thru the blessings of God I am spared this opportunity of writing you a few lines to let you know we are all well at this time. Hoping when these few lines come to ________ and that they may find you all enjoying the same blessing. I have nothing strange to write you at this time. Your mother has been rite sick a few days with the _______sciples but is well. My ______ ______ as I expected it would _______ and better. I am able to pick cotton all day and rise early. Betty and Julie and Bev make good hands but Julie is the best. Tildey, Jimmy, and Franky this letter is to you all. We have rented a farm that is about 2 miles from Mocks and is three miles from Collinsville our post office.

Our place is conviently fix with out buildings and good spring close to the house and a good orchard. Apples, peaches, pears and plums and cheeries. The orchard was reserved but we are to have plenty of using right and peaches to dry. We have thirty five head of cattle in care and ten of them giving milk. Me and Betty attend to them. They are all gentle and but little trouble and we get plenty of milk. We are very well fixed up in our house for Texas. We bought four bedsteads and six chairs and a stove. Our table com-safe and everything but one c___h and one bottle of medicine.

Well you would like to know what I think of Texas. I have seen but little of it but I am satisfied that I made a good move. The land is rich and there is plenty of water and timber in this part of Texas. Sand____ and Rea_____ at that. There is plenty of corn here at 50___ and plenty of everything that you have in Missouri.

The people here are friendly and plain and we have church every Sunday within a mile and two miles. Methodist and Baptist. I have been to hear both sides preach and have been to one wedding and one burying at _____. But beautiful burying ground. Well Jimmy I want you and Wesley to clean off the old graveyard for me. If you please leave some bushes trim, clip for shade and _____. Frank and Eliza I want you to plant four little cedars at the head and foot of Barby and Jesse's graves. I may never see them but will satisfy the mind for them to be there for somebody to see and I can see them in the distance.

Lady is here. Her and Betty is cutting out a new dress as it is damp and rainy and not fit to pick cotton. She is grown and well turned and doesn't chew tobacco nor dip snuff. Dock and Tine is well and doing well and is living on a fine farm and seventy acres of wheat sowed and looking well and talks of sowing his oats right away. Tell James Huston seeing that if he was out here and would go with me out on the Sherman Ferry we would see the finest looking land he ever seen and plenty of it.

I must close for the present. Give my respect to all inquiring friends. Write all of you when you get this.

Beverly and Eliza Harvey

The "Lady" refereed to in this letter is their granddaughter, Barbara "Lady" Garrison. She was the eldest daughter of Mary Martina "Tine" Harvey and W.F. " Dock" Garrison.

I believe that the Garrison's went to Texas first. Followed by Beverly and Eliza and three of their children. Later about 1881, their son, Wesley Granger and his family along with others moved to Texas.
