Notes for Polly Mary Ann Hines Sitton:
According to the "Sitton and Gibson Genealogy" a book compiled by, Enid Wells Sitton, and published in the 70's, Polly Mary Ann Hines Sitton was adopted.
The story goes that one day a woman rode up to the home of John Sitton and his wife Rhoda. It was raining and she asked them to keep her baby a few days. She said her husband was gone with a drove of cattle and she was sick. She was going to him when _ _ _ (not legible). John and Rhoda had no children so they took the baby to court, legally adopted her and gave her the name of Polly Desolate.

When Polly was perhaps fourteen, a man and a woman came to see her and to give her her real name.
Her sister said there were five of them and she wanted to tell the real name for fear she might one day marry her own brother.

However it also states that she was recognized as the adopted daughter of her father, but was the natural child of John Sitton. (a notation in the book in another handwriting, "This is a mistake", but does not clarify which part is a mistake.)
