When the English took Ireland away from the Irish, they made it illegal to speak the native tongue, it was also illegal for the Irish to learn to read and be educated. They were kept on their own land as tenants and served the English in much the same way as the African American's served the Southern landbarons. When the potatoe crops failed, to survive they left Ireland and came to North America. My immediate heritage settled in the Ottawa valley, mostly they were hard working farmers. Some became lawyers and judges, but one thing they had in common was that they hard learned a hard lesson and they all struggled to own their land. Immagine their struggle, their hardships, their courage, and strengths. This is our heritage, this is our sense of strength, we all have this gift of Ireland in our makeup and it is blessed with the love of Canada. Are you part of our clan?, is Hogan in your background, please let me know if it is.
