Will the correct birth year for John Larrance (d. 1800) PLEASE be used!!
I keep running across web sites and off-line databases that have John Larrance (1725-1800) born in 1745 instead. I'm going to tell on myself because I am tired of seeing that 1745 birthyear for John Larrance/Lawrence.
I became interested in genealogy when I was 13 and I was able to easily trace back to John, my 5th great grandfather, because he was buried in Randolph Co. NC and all my line from him to my father is from that same place. A cousin had found some papers which gave the birthdate of John as Sep 1725 and that of his wife as 1744. Being a young teenager at the time, I couldn't imagine how someone born in 1744 could possibly marry a man nearly 20 years older. So, I decided that 1725 must've been an error and the real year was more like 1745. It is amazing that no adult corrected my wayward thinking, but they didn't. Of course, as I aged, I realized that couples do often have a big age difference, and I also found records to collaborate the 1725 birthyear. But, I must've had more influence back then than I ever dreamed of, and I'm beginning to feel a bit sick, thinking that 1745 might go down in infamy and me with it.
So please, take it from an older (and hopefully MUCH wiser!) me:
JOHN LARRANCE/LAWRENCE WAS BORN IN 1725!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
