William was a son of Jesse Lawrence (see his photo) and his 2nd wife, Ruth (Mathews) Marley. William was born & reared in Randolph Co. NC and married there, but was granted a divorce in the 1840's. After that he (and his son) moved to Union Co. GA, and later remarried. He had a son & a daughter by each wife. His elder daughter, Elizabeth, stayed behind with her Lawrence grandparents, but in later years went to live with her father's second family. It was she who carried the pictures of her father & grandfather. I was fortunate to receive this photo, along with that of Jesse Lawrence, from Willie "Mae" Lawrence Lewis of Blairsville,,GA.
