Notes for Middleton Fanning: In 1789 Middleton was in St. David's district, 1 white poll, no land, tax list of Caswell Co., N.C. 1790 Richmond district, 200 acres, 1 white poll 1796 Middleton got 160 acres from brother Benjamin Fannin in Elbert Co., Ga. This was a land grant. 1801 Middleton was appointed Ensign (Navy) in place of Benjamin Fannin who resigned in Elbert Co., Ga. militia. He later served in the Overton Co., Tn militia in 1809. He shows up in Lincoln Co., Tn. in 1811 as a road overseer and served on a jury in 1812.
