* The Vindin Family of Sydney, Australia*

Updated April 14, 2001

Welcome to my Family Tree. The main families in this tree are VINDIN, ZOELLER and SHEPHERD.

Vindin:
The Vindins arrived in Australia from England in 1855. After John Vindin died in 1852, his widow Sarah and five of their children (Joseph, Alfred, George, Frederick and Sarah) emigrated to New South Wales, landing in Sydney on 28th May 1855. To my knowledge, all the Vindins living in Australia today are descended from this family.
Many thanks to Alan McGowan (from the UK) for all of the pre 1855 information of UK births and marriages. Please visit Alan's web page at http://website.lineone.net/~mcgoa/) to find out more about Vindins in other countries and also the Vinden line.

Zoeller:
Daniel Zoeller migrated from Darmstadt Germany in 1856 and arrived in Australia with his wife Katherine and their first child Elizabeth. Daniel made a good life for himself and his family settling in Concord. His carrying business was successful and for a time he was the Mayor of Concord Council.
The Zoellers are connected to the Vindin family because Daniel's grand-daughter Christina Ada Zoeller, married Fred Vindin. Fred and Ada were my grandparents.
Many thanks to Alfred West of Dubbo for his original research into the Zoellers in Germany, and the more recent link between Zoeller and West.

Shepherd:
Lynn Shepherd and his family came to Sydney from England in 1826. He was a soldier in the Royal Veterans Corp and settled in Bong Bong near Bowral NSW. His descendants went on to marry and spread around the general area of Bowral, Braidwood and Shoalhaven only moving to Sydney in the 1920's.
His great grand-daughter Joyce Lorraine Shepherd married Dawson Sydney Vindin and they are my parents.

The Vindin and Zoeller trees have been carefully sourced and footnoted from official certificates and publications. The Shepherd family is almost completely the work of R.G. Wills and B. Mills who have published this information either in book form or on the Internet. They are given credit in the footnotes, and I thank them for making it available.

I suggest you have a look at the Outline Descendant Tree Reports first and then for more detail look at the Genealogy Report.

Other names mentioned: West, Singleton, Hanslow, Cross, Eliot, Healy, Matchett, Dye, Chilcott, Mate, Coucom, Cameron, Murray, Ritchie, Hands, Barker, Crockett, Stone, Simpson, Woodcroft.

If you have any information about anyone listed on these pages please let me know. I am keen to make this more human by including some life stories in it. See below for my email address.
