The Violettes (Violett, Violet) of Virginia ,Kentucky, etc.Updated January 25, 2004 | |
| This is a genealogy of the Violette (Violett, Violet, Vilit) family which had its origins in Virginia, probably in the late 17th century. The original settler was most likely from England, although much work needs to be done on this topic. The history of the family in Virginia is very interesting, especially the Edward Violet's position as an overseer of two of George Washington's farms, and Robert Gray Violett's brief tenure as the first popularly elected mayor of Alexandria, Virginia, not to mention the sometimes colorful and occasionally tragic histories of individuals such as occur in every family. This is a work in progress, and over the years I have received help from many people, but in particular I owe a big debt to Mary Catherine "Violett" Corbett, Mrs. Percy A. Dolle, and Mrs. Herbert B Enderton, none of whom I ever met. I hope those with information on this family will help me with this project. |
