BUFORD - EWALT - STAMPS - BYRD - FRIZZELL - FRYE (FREY) - JOHNSON - MALLORY - METCALFE (METCALF) - ROE - ROSE -
RUCKER - SHORE - SPEARS - STORY - STREET - WHITE - WOODSON.

The EWALTs settled in Cumberland & Bedford County Pennsylvania in the early 1700's. They came from Palatine, Bavaria, Germany by way of Holland.

Part of the family moved to Paris, Bourbon County, Kentucky in the late 1700's where my ggg-grandfather, Henry D. EWALT, was born. He was an Ensign in the American Revolution. He married Ketturah STAMPS, and they moved their family to Monticello, Lewis County, Missouri in the 1840's. They had six sons who served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Two were killed, one in Missouri and the other at Pea Ridge, Arkansas.

Their 10th son, Noah Spears EWALT, moved to Sowers (now Irving), Dallas County, Texas after his parents death in the middle 1800's. This was in the middle of the Civil War. When Pea Ridge fell to the Union, Missouri was never a Confederate state again. The entire family moved to Texas with their Slaves.

There he married Mary Jane Johnson, born in Cass Co., TX. She was the daughter of William and Nancy Johnson, and the granddaughter of Harris Johnson. Harris and William Johnson along with their families moved to Texas from Tennessee, by way of Arkansas. They arrived in 1835, and William fought with the Red River Company of the Republic of Texas. He was at San Jacinto right after the battle, and family history says that he was one of three Red River Company soldiers who guarded Santa Anna. The history books state two of the mens names and mention an unnamed third who also guarded him. Although the Johnson family had no contact for almost 100 years each branch told the same story about William being the third guard.

Their daughter Lucinda Catherine (Kate) EWALT, married Earlie May STORY. The STORY family came to Texas from Illinois and Ohio. They descended from Marmaduke (sometimes spelled Mormer Duke). He was born in Kent County, Delaware, and we believe they came from Scotland by way of Ireland.

Henry EWALT was Henry D.'s father, and he married Elizabeth FRYE. See Heinrich FREY.

John Thomas STAMPS came in the early 1600's and settled in Virginia. The STAMPS have been researched back to England in the 1400's. They were from Berkshire, and prominant land owners. Bruerne Abby, one of the ancestral homes is now a private school for boys. The Lord Mayor of London in 1691 was a Stampe. The following names are the wives of their descendents. Ursula Birlington, Elizabeth Coxe, Joan Knapp, Katherine Hyde, Mary Gunner, Mary Roe, Margaret Frizzell, Mary Byrd, Mary Rose, Margaret Metcalfe, & Jane Shore. John Thomas STAMPS was the first of the STAMPE line to come to America, and he arrived in Virginia in 1635 on the ship The Plaine Joan. See STAMP & STAMPE.

I am interested in sharing information with anyone about any of these families or any names listed above. The BUFORD, BYRD, EWALT, FRIZZELL, FRYE (FREY), MALLORY, METCALFE, ROE, ROSE, RUCKER, SHORE, SPEARS, STAMPS, STORY, & WHITE. With the exception of BUFORD, RUCKER, & WHITE all settled in Virginia and Kentucky (Bourbon County). The above link to Tripod has links to all my files.
