Welcome to the Wagness Family Home Page. I am currently researching my mothers family tree. The surname is MARTIN. Her fathers name was Melvin Charles Martin born in May of 1908 in South Dakota. Died in Mt. Vernon, Washington on 10/11/71. His fater was Henry E. Martin born in Montpelier, Vermont in 1837.
Henry E. Martin served in the Civil War and was honorbly discharged in 1865 in Norfolk, Virginia. The next records I have of him is in 1886 in Bridgewater, South Dakota. I have no records of my grandfather between 1865 and 1886. I do know he was married and divorced during this time.

He remarried in 1874 to Mrs. L. M. Shaffer who then died in 1896 somewhere in South Dakota. He again remarried in 1896 to Sarah Fick from Madison, South Dakota. I belived he had two children from his first marriage, one adopted during his second, and 6 during his third.

He finally died on October 7, 1914 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. Any help for the years 1837 to 1886 would be greatly appreciated.
