| Riley Thornton Waggoner (RT to family and friends) was born April 25, 1869 in Mercer County Ohio. He left home at age 16, married a Mercer County girl, Maggie Patterson Coate, in 1905 and moved several years later to Darke County Ohio where he farmed the rest of his working life. When he retired from farming, he lived in Gettysburg, Ohio pop about 1000 and when he died in 1974, he was buried in the Gettysburg cemetary. He valued God, the Bible, family, hard work, fun and honesty. Though he had a hard, simple farm life, he and Maggie had great influence on their four children, eleven grand children, about 26 great grandchildren and a growing number of great great grandchildren who still gather every two years at the farm near Gettysburg where RT and Maggie raised their family. We will meet in August 1998 to remember and tell stories. These will become part of the family heritage and will be preserved this year with the help of FTM. |
