Descendants of John Waggener
3.MARGARET2 WAGGENER (JOHN1) was born Bet. 1675 - 1680 in Virginia, and died Aft. 1739.She married WILLIAM ALLEN, SR. June 11, 1696, son of JOHN ALLEN and BARBARA WITHERS.He was born Abt. 1677 in Essex Co., Virginia, and died Aft. 1739.
Notes for MARGARET WAGGENER:
From the various records it appears that Margaret was the 4th or 5th oldest child born to her parents John and Rachel Ward. I have estimated that she must have been born between 1675 and 1680. She is listed in the wills of both her parents as being the wife of William Allen. I don't know when she died, but she was reportedly alive at the time of the death of their son Wiliam Jr. in 1739.
Notes for WILLIAM ALLEN, SR.:
From Essex County: An Annotated Copy of the Rent Roll of 1704, by John Bailey Calvert Nicklin:
William Allen (d. 1739; married Margaret Waggener) is listed as paying taxes on 100 acres in 1704 and again on 100 acres in 1715.
I am not sure about this death date, but do believe that this record pertains to this William Allen.
Children of MARGARET WAGGENER and WILLIAM ALLEN are:

Since there is no mention in his will of a wife or children, but he does mention his father and siblings, it appears that it must be the former rather than the later. |

4.SAMUEL2 WAGGENER (JOHN1) was born Bet. 1675 - 1680 in Virginia, and died Abt. 1729 in Essex Co., Virginia. He married CHRISTIANA PRICE.She was born Unknown in Virginia, and died Abt. May 1730 in Essex Co., Virginia.
Notes for SAMUEL WAGGENER:
From the various records, it appears that Samuel was one of the middle children born to his parents John and Rachel Waggener. My best guess is that he was probably the 4th or 5th oldest of the 8 known children, and that he was probably born between 1675 and 1680. His brother John Jr. mentions him in his will in 1696, and bequeaths him his land. The will seems to imply that Samuel is married at that point, but that he had not yet had any children. This land was apparently near to the land of his parents inSouth Farnham Parish of Essex County. Samuel apparently later purchased additional land in the area. All of his land was passed on to his son Samuel Jr, when he and Christiana died around 1729-30. There are two deeds from 1743, in which Samuel Jr. is apparently selling off this land, which give a very detailed description of this land. One of the deeds refers to a graveyard in an orchard, where Samuel and Christina are buried. This land was apparently very close to the present day St. John's Baptist Church.

****** Essex County Clerk of Court Files, Deed Book 318, pgs. 368-370:
Dated September 17, 1728; Samuel Waggoner Planter and Christina his wife of the Parish of South Farnham of Essex, are paid in two payments of 500 pounds of tobacco by Nicholas Smith and Thomas Threshley, Church Warden on behalf of the Parish or parishoners, thereof for the piece of land "where on the new brick church now standeth." The land was part of the inheritence of Samuel. Payment to be on the day of St. Michael the Arch Angel, in the sum of one peppercorn if demanded. Signed and sealed by Samuel Waggoner and Christina Waggoner in the presence of Salvator Muscoe and Erasmus Allen.
Christinia individually released her right of dower. In the final attached document Samuel and Christina promise a bond of 1000 pounds sterling to the same parties.
I believe that this church is the Upper Church of the Southfarnham Parish. I have no idea if there is anything that remains of this brick church, but it apparently was directly adjacent to the Samuel's land and probably close to his house and subsequent graveyard. In the book "Settlers, Southerners, Americans; The History of Essex County, Virginia; 1984;" by James B. Slaughter, on page 19 he writes: "In 1728, a "new brick church" was standing just east of Desha near the grounds of present-day St. John's Baptist Church. This was the upper Piscataway Church for the parish." This seems to be in regards to this same church and would seem to pinpoint it's location and the location of Samuel and Christina's property.
****** Essex County Clerk of Court Files, Will Book #4, pg. 356:
Dated September 16, 1729; Christina Waggener, William Allen, and Benjamin Allenpost a 500 pound sterling bond, that they will do an inventory of the goods, etc. of Samuel Waggener, deceased.

From Donna Lee Carter:
Samuel was the administrator of the Will of a Richard Price:Will Book 13,pgs 121-122--November 19, 1717
(Donna speculates that this Richard was perhaps a father or brother of his wife Christina, making her a Price. Most of my descendant information of Samuel came from Donna and Walter S. Waggoner.)
