EORGE WASHINGTON WAHLQUIST:
George was the son of an immigrant tailor. George was a vigorous man, even in later life, who enjoyed walking. On the day of his death he walked from his daughter's (Gertrude Lugo) house into town, a distance of about 3 miles, and back to pick up the mail at the Post Office in Mountain View,Ar. He also loved to sing, and had a good strong voice. He often sang, in English and Swedish, some of the old folk songs he had learned as a child. He was a printer by trade and established and published newspapers in Ravenden Springs, Ar. Mammoth Springs, Ar (with brother Wm. H.V.) W. Helena, Ar. and Oklahoma in the area of Ada.

On the day of his death, he walked several miles, returned to his daughter's house, and went into the bathroom and shaved. He commented about being tired, went into the bedroom and removed his shoes and lay on the bed. A few minutes later his daughter found him on the bed dead. He is buried in W. Helena AR. beside his wife.

He was a printer by trade, and he, like his father before him, moved from town to town quite often, opening his printing shop and starting a newspaper. For several years he operated a print shop in West Helena AR. until his retirement.
