The purpose of this website is to create an online environment for the Wahl Family to access all current research on the Wahl family in South Africa.
21 April 2007: Ancestry24.co.za has published the first ever new independent research related to Adam Johannes Wahl, please see their article in the links!!
The current primary focus of this site is to add research related to the parents of Adam Johannes Wahl (aka Johnny and John) born August 25, 1880 in Paarl, South Africa. Johnny and his wife, Gerrie, had seven children, six of whom survived child birth. He was also a leader in the 1914 Cape Rebellion, along with General Maritz. Originally from Paarl, he also lived in Niewoudtville, their farm Stofvlei Plaas, and Merweville.
Up to the middle of 2007 little was known abouth John's father, but then research by Ancestry24 showed that his father was Daniel Hendrik Wahl. In 2008 research indicated he was born circa May 1855 in Darling. It appears he may have at least two spouses: (1) On the 17th February 1874, Daniel Hendrik applied for a special marriage license to marry Maria Catherina Reynecke. Her father's name was Adam Johannes Reynecke - and that's where Oupa John's names most probably originated. (2) Additional information from Ancestry24 supports the notion of a second wife, Wilhelmina Elizabeth Stadler Johnson, date unknown, in Mowbray.
The current secondary focus of this site is to add photos and anecdotal information related to the relatives of Johnny and Gerrie Wahl. Please email all your fotos and notes to me at the email address below.
In order to preserve the research in the widest format, the information is generally in English, but that does not detract from the fact the majority of the Wahls are Afrikaners, and much of the narrative information on this site is in Afrikaans, and I encourage the use of Afrikaans by this site's users.
