Notes for CHARLES C. WAKEFIELD:
Charles Wakefield was said to be in the transfer business. One of the items he transfered were school children to the Elma School. This got him in trouble with the school board. It seems he hauled students in trucks from South Union but failed to provide a tailgate to keep students from falling out. In addition he hauled livestock in the truck during the day and failed to clean them out properly causing parents to complain. In October,1920 the board gave Mr. Wakefield an ultimatum-add the tailgate, fix the leaks in the roof, and no livestock or lose his contract.

Don Wakefield was a machinist, a person who could look at any mechanical problem and find a solution. He was burned in an powder explosion as a young teenager in his fathers coal mine in Saltzer Valley, near Centralia, Washington.

He loved sports, played golf when he was young and was a superb dog trainer. Although he lived in Seattle, nearly every weekend could find him down in the Centralia area hunting or fishing. He had an old green panel truck that he must have put 200,000 miles and a boat he built himself. Later he had a nice motor home.

Some of my fondest memeroies were the hunting and fishing trips I took with my Uncle Don.
