4. GILES3 HOPKINS (STEPHEN2, NICHOLAS1) was born Abt. 1609 in London, England, and died 4/26/1689 in Eastham, MA. He married (2) CATHERINE CATONE WHELDEN 10/9/1639 in Plymouth, MA, daughter of GABRIEL WHELDEN and MARGARET MASSASOIT. She was born in Yarmouth MA, and died Aft. 3/5/1687-88 in Eastham, MA.

Giles, his father, and his sister Constance were passengers aboard the "Mayflower".
Giles (Gyles) & Catherine had ten children
He volunteered with his father and brother Caleb to go against the Pequot Indians in 1637. He moved from Plymouth to Yarmouth in late 1638 or early 1639 and probably met his wife there. They occupied the first house traditionally built by the English on Cape Cod below Sandwich. He was copnveyed 100 acres by his brother Caleb Oct 28 1644, and not long thereafter moved to Eastham, where he served as highway surveyor. - per Claude MacGray.[Mayflower.FBK.FBK2.FTW]

Nicholas came to America on ship "Ann" 1623 and was made a freeman at Plymouth in 1633. He was named in 1634 to lay out highways at Plymouth and he served there as arbitrator, surveyor of highways and on juries. By 1645 he had settled at Eastham.He served as the first town Clerk in Eastham for 16 years, the deputy for three years and Selectman 1663 for seven years
He may be the Nicholas baptized 25 Jan 1599 at St Leonard's, Shoreditch, London, England, son of Nicholas Snow of Hoxton Co. Middlesex. The parish of St Leonard's adjoins St Mary's Whitechapel, where Stephen Hopkins, father of Constance, married his second wife in 1617/18.[Mayflower.FBK.FBK2.FTW]
