This is the last Will and Testament of me Joseph Brantingham of Iveston in the County of Durham Yeoman I give devise and bequeath all my Freehold Estate situate at Witton Gilbert in the County of Durham and also all my Copyhold Estates situate at Iveston aforesaid and at Stonestile in Allendale in the County of Northumberland and which said Copyhold Estates I have surrendered to the use of my lastWill and likewise all my other Estates real and personal whatsoever and wheresoever to my dear wife Sarah Brantingham for and during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after her decease I give devise and bequeath the said Freehold and Copyhold Estates and all other my real and personal Estates half my household furniture only excepted to my son John Brantingham now living with me at Iveston aforesaid to have and to hold all and every the said Freehold and Copyhold Estates with the appurtenances situate as aforesaid to him the said John Brantingham his heirs and assigns for ever subject nevertheless to and chargeable with the following Bequests and Legacies that is to say that he the said John Brantingham may sell and dispose of all or any part of my said real and personal Estates and in that case of his selling all or any part of such Estates I do order and direct that the Receipt or Receipts of him the said John Brantingham shall be a sufficient discharge to any Purchaser or Purchasers thereof for so much of such Purchase money as shall be expressed in such Receipts or Receipts (sic) to have been paid and that such Purchaser or Purchasers shall be from thenceforth absolutely discharged therefrom and shall not be answerable or accountable for the nonapplication or misapplication of such Purchaser money and that the said John Brantingham shall out of the monies arising from such sale or otherwise pay or cause to be paid to my son Thomas Brantingham the sum of one hundred pounds to my son Josua Brantingham provided he the said Josua shall return into thisneighbourhood and claim the same the Legacy or sum of Twenty Pounds to my son Hugh Brantingham the Legacy or sum of Fifty Pounds to my son William Brantingham the Legacy or sum of one hundred Pounds to my son Jacob Brantingham the Legacy or sum of one hundred Pounds to my son George Brantingham the Legacy or sum of one hundred Pounds and to my Daughter Rachel Brantingham the Legacy or sum of Two hundred and Fifty Pounds All which Legacies to my Sons and Daughter shall be paid within twelve months of the decease of my wife Sarah Brantingham I also give and bequeath to my daughter Rachel Brantingham half of my household furniture and I do hereby appoint my said son John Brantingham sole Executor of this my last will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal thisfirst day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eight Joseph Brantingham Signed sealed published and declared by the within named Joseph Brantingham as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names Joseph Brantingham Witnesses Robert Summer bell John Smith jun Mary Brown The 31st day of March 1812 John Smith one of the subscribing witnesses to the within written will was sworn to the true execution thereof by the Testator before me James Viner jun I John Brantingham of Iveston in the County of Durham Blacksmith do solemnly sincerely and truly affirm and declare that I am one of the Dissenters from the Church of England commonly called Quakers and that I believe this paper writing contains the true last will and testament of Joseph Brantingham deceased and that I am the Executor therein named and that I will well and truly xxxxxx in the sameby paying first his Debts and then the Legacies herein bequeathed as far as the Estate which shall come to my hands will thereto extend and the Law charge me and that I will make a true and perfect inventory and under a just account of my administration when I shall be thereunto by law required and xxxxxxx the whole of the deceased effects within the Diocese of Durham do not account to two hundred pounds John Brantingham The 31 day of march 1812 This affirmation was made before me Durham James Viner jun (Iveston on the Parish of Lanchestor)
