Descendants of David Qualls


      3. James2 Qualls (David1) was born 1794 in Virginia, and died February 07, 1861 in Rye Cove, Scott County, Virginia (George J. McConnell Cemetery, S. Fort Blackmore). He married Nancy Smith October 10, 1820 in Scott County, Virginia by John Pendleton, daughter of Samuel Smith. She was born 1801 in Tennessee, and died 1865 in Scott County, Virginia (George J. McConnell Cemetery, S. Fort Blackmore).

James Qualls died at the age of 67; Cause of Death was GRAVEL.

Notes for Nancy Smith:
In 1860, James and Nancy Qualls were 64 and 59. He owned $3000 real estate
and $475 personal property. The following children lived with them: Catherine
age 27, Elizabeth age 34, Rebecca J. age 32, Mohaney age 26, William J. age 22, Surrena age 20, Daniel age 17, James P. age 15, Manda C. Martin age 15
and Nancy M. Martin age 7. All were born in Virginia. They were living in
the Estillville, Va section of Scott County, Virginia.


In 1870 Census, Nancy Smith Qualls was the head of house (James apparently
died bet. 1860 and 1870). Nancy was age 64. Living with her were Catharine
age 47, Elizabeth age 44, Rebecca J. age 42, Martha L. age 37, Sorena age 30,
and James P. age 25. James was attending school. Nancy was born in
Tennesee and owned $400 value of real estate and $344 of personal property.
She could not read or write. All the girls were unmarried and without occupation.
Catharine and Sorena and James P. could read and write. Rebecca could read
only.

In 1880, Nancy Smith Qualls was head of house. Nancy was born in Tennessee.
She had Catherine, Elizabeth P., Rebecca, Sorena living with her. Also her
niece Nancy age 2, her son in law Pastor Penly and his wife Martha S.

Virginia, Scott County to wit:

I, Catherine qualls of the said County, of disfasing mind and minaary do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form the following. That is to say 1st I command offer my debts ard paid and funeral expenses. That all the personal property that I may have remain in ??? with my four sisters that are now at home to wit, Elizabeth P. Qualls, rebeca J. qualls, Martha Louhaney Pensley, and serrena Qualls so long as they all live together. Now to them that remain together at the old homestead. 2nd. I will and desire my land to remain in command with the lands of my four sisters agove named so long as they remain to live together at the old homestead each to them have an equal share of it, but if any of them leave or die, then the remaining acres to have and hold it so long as they may live them at the last ones with I will and desie that the two children of my sister, Serena Qualls namely Easter Qualls and Nancy Qualls have and hold all the interest. I have in any _______. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this the 30th day of October 1880.
