Notes for IVERSON JEFFERSON WALL:
Iverson Wall, eldest son of Benjamin, was born in Amite County, MS. He moved with his family to Livingston Parish, LA, in 1847. He was a farmer and lived near Lizard Creek, west of Springfield, LA. In the war he served as 1st. Lt. in Company C, Ninth Battalion of Louisiana Infantry. He entered politics as a Democrat after the war and served on the Police Jury from about 1868 until 1883. In 1883 he was elected to a four year term in the state Legislature.

Iverson married first, in about 1852, Martha Patterson, Daughter of Sheriff Sam Patterson, and they had six children. This marriage failed, however, and Martha divorced him in 1866. He second wife was Elizabeth Zachary of Mississippi. It is thought that she had come to live with the family as a governess to his children. Perhaps it was her presence in the household that caused his first marriage to fail! They had five children. Iverson and Elizabeth separated in the late 1880s, and he married a third time to Martha Gainey. Martha died before 1900, and Iverson lived out his final years at the home of his son, Dennis, where he died in 1912.

As I was looking at a copy of a 1880 census, Livingston Parish, Dist 137, I noticed George Efferson age 45 and his wife Martha age 45. It lists children as John Efferson age 11, Zachary Efferson age 6, Samuel Efferson age 2, Infant Efferson son, Henderson Wall age 18 (step-son), Cornelia Wall age 16 (step-daughter), and Thomas Wall age 13 (step-son).
