The Walton Family
The Walton Family of Virginia had many pioneer families that moved west at the beginning of the 19th Century.William Walton of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia had a son Jessie Simeon Walton who moved to Texas in stages through Tennessee and Arkansas. His first wife Eliza Lanier died along the way, but Jessie remarried at least twice more and left at least 22 children that settled intially in central Texas. One of his sons, James Lanier Walton was a distinguished citizen of Corsicana, Texas.James came to Texas with his father in 1845 and began life for himself at age 18, working with stock as a hired man for five years. He then began farming, and a short time later was elected Constable for two years in the 1850s.When the Civil War broke out James enlisted in Parson's Brigade, Company F of the 12th Texas Regiment under Captain McKee.He served in the Trans-Mississippi Department and participated in the battles consequent to the Banks' and Steele's raids. This home page is an attempt to gather a few of the remaining fragments of information that join this family together in history. | The Walton Family Updated December 21, 2001 |
