Notes for J
OHN LEA VELLE:
John Leavell (1670-1740) was also known as Jean Lea Velle(Jean LaLaVelle) when he came to America from France or England in the late 1600s. It is believed that his brother, Edward came with him. There were French Huguenots who left France due to being persecuted by France's Catholic King, Louis the 13th. Tradition has it that they came with English Colonist to Virginia and settled near what is now Orange, Spotsylvania, Yourk, Caroline or Culpepper Counties perhaps near the Rappahanock River. They no doubt married there the first part of the 1700s. It is no known who Johns wife was, but believe Edward's wife was Mary Nix.[Wallace.FTW]
