The Last Will and Testament of John Lawler
The will is as follows:
In the Name of God, Amen. Sept. 19 day 1799, I John Lawler of the County of Moore and State of North Carolina, remembering the State of Mortality and it is for all men to die but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God do make an ordain this my last will and testament.My Worldly Estate I give and dispose in the following manner. I give and bequeath to my loving Wife one feather bed and bedding, 4 plates and such (illegible) as she will need & one cow to be supported to her if in case she should need when that one is gone during her lifetime or widowhood.I give and bequeath to my Grandson John Lawler, Evan's son, six of the largest pewter plates, I give and bequeath to my daughter in law, Ann Lawler, one loom.The rest of personal property to be praised and my three sons Eli, Levi and Evan to take in their hands each one equal as nigh as they can be for their Mothers support.I give and bequeath the plantation whereon I now live with one hundred acres that I entrust ? to my son Evan Lawler and he is to pay forty one pounds ? and at their Mother's death what may be left to be equally divided amongst my four sons Eli, John, Levi and Evan.No legacies are to be paid while she lives.I appoint and ordain my son Evan Lawler to be my sole executor to receive and pay as need may require.
