Letter written by Popie when he had Kimi with him and Grandma at Adel's ranch15 July 1968:He wrote it like Kimi was speaking:
PSMary. I wish you were here to sit in the shade and smell sweet clover and cow manure.Dear Mary F., and Mom (Kathy) and Ronnie:
I suppose Mimie told you she got a letter from me.In that letter I called Grandpa all the fat heads he had coming to him.We were to the Red Camp yesterday, just to look things over but when we got there Aunt Adell seen a few things that needed repairing as usual Popie said the corral is a mess and needs to be rebuilt, so even tho it was Sunday, we dug a couple of post holes. It was getting dark and they were in a hurry to out out of there cause it is bad enough to get out of in day light Popie had 8 barb wire gates to go thru, and the old buzzard can't see at night. We got home at 10:50 p.m. blacker than a stack of cats.Well here is what gets me.After they dug the post hole their was some nice dirt to play with, and I was sitting on the pile playing and it did not suite the old goat.he wanted me to get off the pile as he said it was getting dark.Of all the pig headed monsters, he's 3.I guess he never was 3 1/2 years old. They are getting ready to brand at the Red camp.Aunt Adell was a little sore when we got to camp she found about 40 cows there that did not belong there.Quite a few of Krone's cattle and some others.Adell chased them, but did not run them down.I was sick this morn and threw up, sick as I was I went with Grandma and Grandpa to set a post up by the road, there I slept in the car, when we got home they gave me a can of 7 up.Now I feel better.Just now I was spinning my top and cut my finger and it really bled.Of course, the Peanut Head told one I should not cry, cause he don't when he cuts his finger,Grandma wraped it up and am now lalying on the davenport.I don't say much about going home anymore but if the old bald headed pirate tells me off, I walk home or hitch hike, but before I do I put a rattlesnake in his bed.The heat is terrible, its just as hot at home but we don't work in it.Hoping Mama is in good health again and you and Ronnie.I will close for how.Kim.
