She married GILBERT HAMPTON HIGDON31, son of WILLIAM HIGDON and LETHA CISSELL. He was born 26 February 1902 in Daviess Co. Kentucky31, and died 20 November 1940 in Owensboro, Daviess Co. Kentucky31.

Notes for NANNIE MAE MATTINGLY:
Nannie Mae married Gilbert Higdon and they divorced about eight years later. She continued to raise their daughter on her own while working full time as a supervisor at the Glenmore Distillery in Owensboro. She retired after 40 some years of service. She was a lifelong seamstress and delighted in making her own clothes as well as clothes for her family. She died in Owensboro, Kentucky on 20 Feb 2002 at the age of 95. Her death was a result of long-standing Alzheimer's Disease and in the end, she stopped eating. Her funeral was handled by the Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro, and the funeral itself was in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Owensboro. More than 100 people attended. Her old boss at the Glenmore Distillery remarked at what an effective Union leader she had been and told her family that she was "much smarter than most people realized". He characterized her as a formidable adversary across the bargaining table and a close friend.

She was married to Gilbert Hampton HIGDON on 8 Feb 1927 in St. Paul's Church, Owensboro, Daviess, KY.119 The marriage bond was signed 7 Feb 1927 with Hampton Higdon as principal and Warden Vanover as surety. The couple was married by Fr. Frederick J. Gettlefinger with witnesses Edward Hugh Aull and Cecelia Payne. Hampton's occupation was listed as foreman. In the priest's return, it states he "is qualified and gave bond, according to law, authorizing me to celebrate the rites of Marriage in the County of Jefferson." That should be Daviess Co. Gilbert Hampton HIGDON was born 26 Feb 1902 in Daviess Co., KY.120

Uncle Buck was born on 9 Apr 1908.121 He died on 31 Mar 1992. He was buried in St. William's Catholic Cemetary, Knottsville, Daviess, KY.

He was married to Mary "Maime" LANHAM in 1936 in Daviess Co., KY.124 Mary "Maime" LANHAM was born on 3 May 1912. At my last visit to the cemetary, there was no death date on her stone, but the earth was still freshly turned, as she had only recently been interred.
