BENNETT

William Parmoley Bennett, the second son of Joseph Bennett, ran a grist mill at what is known as Bennett's Mills on Tygart Creek. He married Abigail Bonser of Scioto County, Ohio, and their children were Thaddeus, John, Samuel, Hannah, Ruby, Abigail, and Ellen. William died in 1886 and was buried in the cemetery at Bennett's Mills.

This is the first mention of Parmoley being used as a middle name in the Bennett family. It is questionable as to where it originated and more research will be needed in this area, but the last time it was applied was to Marion Parmolee Walker, great great grandson to William. The "y" has been changed to an "e" at the end.

2. The Following BENNETT Family Information was received from Tom Housley on the net at DirectorTH@aol.com. He obtained most of the information from Cindy Munn at munsters@zoomnet.net. My heartfelt thanks to both of them for a great piece of Research Work!

Notes:
Wm., the 2nd son, of Joseph Bennett, ran a grist mill at what is known as Bennett's Mills on Tygart Creek. Info. in History of Greenup Co., Ky. pg. 120-121. Also, Info. from Grant Perry, grandson, 1982.

Pioneers of Scioto Co., lists his childrens names. It also lists his name as W.H. Parmoley Bennett. unknown what the H. stands for. It gives this acct: He was a miller by profession & with his brother, B.F. Bennett, he operated Bennett's Mills on Little Scioto River from 1852 to 1858, when the mill was sold to Levi Wheeler. He then managed the Harrison Furnace which was situated in Harrison Township, until it was sold in 1860. He then moved to Bennett's Mills on Tygart Creek, Greenup Co., Ky. about 10 mi. from Portsmouth, Oh. & lived there until his death in 1886. He is buried in the family burying grounds at said place. Before he moved from Harrisonville, he served 2 or 3 terms as Justice of the Peace for Harrison Township. He also served in this capacity for Greenup Co. In politics he was a first Whig & then a Republican. He did not belong to any church. He joined the Western Sun Masonic Lodge at Wheelersburg, OH, in the Mt. Vernon Chapter. He was a good business man & was very successful, leaving each of his children a good home.

2/1997, info. from Joyce Munn, wife of Sherman Munn gives record of a
death of M.J. Bennett [girl] d. 2-10-1858 aged 10 mo. burns, probable place
