George first shows up in the 1850 Federal Census in Pennsylvania with Barbara his wife. They were both, according to the census, born in Germany and all the children were born in Pennsylvania. All the children are listed here in the file.

In the 1860 Federal Census, George, Sr. is 54 years old and living in Springarden Township, page 857, and George Jr. is 26 and married to Sara (Susan) age 23 and is a shoemaker. In the 1870 census, page 483, Solomon age 29 and Susan age 28 live in York Township, page 337 George Jr. is age 37 and Susan age 35 live in Springarden Township with Emma 9, Ruben 7, Annie 5, George 1. Page 366, Emanuel age 41 and Barbara (mother) 70 live in Windsor Township.
