My name is Bill Wangelin and I am the church historian for St. Peter Lutheran Church in Macomb, MI. For about three years now I have been working on the genealogies of the founding families of our church, most of whom are from the village of Steffenshagen in Mecklenburg, Germany. Most of the genealogy records are for the charter members of our church who founded our congregation on February 20, 1882. There are 31 charter families. The heads of families are Carl Bellmann, Christian Brass, Friedrich Dopp, Wilhelm Giercke, Heinrich Hamann, Joachim Harms, Carl Hintz, Wilhelm Hirsack, John Jess, Christian Kreger, Ludwig Kreger, Joachim Luchtmann, Johann Miller, George Nicol, August Peters Wilhelm Pringnitz, Johann Rachow, Joachim Range, Johann Range, Christian Schoof, Joachim Schoof, Joachim Schwark Sr., Joachim Schwark Jr., Hans Christoph Schwark, Karl Schwark, Joachim Stark, Johann Stark Heinrich Schwiezow, Joachim Weisskirch, Karl Weisskirch, and Friedrich Witt. There are also about 20 original families who joined our church in the first five years, and 40 early families who joined in the first 20 years. Some names of the original members are Paetow, Alwardt, Harnack, Wangelin, Gruehl, Eschenburg, and Penzien. Most information covers dates of birth, marriage, and death, and sometimes dates for parents and of immigration. The lineages list all the descendants of the charter members until present and for the original and early families for all children who stayed at St. Peter. Sources for these family histories are the baptism, marriage, and confirmation records of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the surrounding Lutheran churches, census records of Macomb Township, and donated family histories. The software that I use is Family Tree Maker 4.0 and Microsoft Works. Most of the information is availible to anyone interested. I hope to have some of these family trees on the web soon.
