Alfred Ritchie Warner was born in Frizzellburg Maryland on July 19, 1870. In 1889 he left the family farm in New Windsor, Maryland and traveled to Dayton,Ohio where he worked as a carpenter and learned the commercial construction business. While in Dayton he married Alvilda Sophia Eibee in 1893 and she gave birth to a daughter Lillian Mary in 1895.

After returning to New Windsor in 1897 he came to Waynesboro, Pennsylvania in the fall of 1898. By 1899 A. R. Warner was in business as a General Contractor. In 1900 his wife gave birth to a daughter Corynn Alvilda and their son Alfred Carl Warner was born in 1902. He was elected and served several terms on the Borough Council. He was Chairman of the Streets Committee when Main Street was paved in 1913 and was elected Council President in 1914. His company, A. R. Warner & Son, Inc. built many of the town's current and former landmarks including Beck & Benedict's Store, the Clayton Avenue School, The Arcade Theatre and The Wayne Building. In 1933 A. R. Warner was appointed Postmaster of Waynesboro by Franklin D. Roosevelt. He died on January 26, 1948.

Many of his descendants still live in Waynesboro and remain active in the community. The company he founded in 1899 still exists today as Waynesboro Construction Company, Inc.
