I am doing research on the Durham/Cook family at the moment. My grandmother is Sybil Irene Cook and her parents were John Cook, Sr. and Mossy Alma Walls. At this particular time, I am looking for additional information on my great grandfather and his family.
John Cook, Sr. was born on the ship coming from Germany to the US. The ship was shipwrecked on the ocean for 6 months. He was born around 1837. We believed his name might have been Koch in Germany; however, we have obtained information that it was possibly Knock. John Cook, Sr.'s first wife was Katherine (Kate) Saltzman. We have been told that the Posey County (New Harmony, IN) marriage record index has a record of a John Knock and Kate Saltzman being married on 21 Dec. 1865. John's family homesteaded in New Harmony after coming over from Germany.
John Knock was also listed in the 1850 census with his family.

In 1870 only Nicholas and Hannah remained in Posey Co. It stated that Nick is a retired carpenter, b. Saxony. By 1880, there are no Knocks in Posey and there are none buried there.
What I am trying to find out now is whether this is the John Cook/Koch we are looking for. We to confirm the information. If you have any additional information which you might be able to pass on, please do so through my e-mail address.
