* The Charles Ward Family Home Page*

Updated September 6, 2000

The WARD family is found in several areas of the south and southeast. Mine originated in an unknown New York county (Allegany) on 15 May 1805 with the birth of my great grandfather, Charles WARD. There is some indication that he may have resided for some time in Indiana prior to 1835. What may have been a brother of Charles (Zebediah WARD), followed him from Illinois to Missouri, was born also in New York and married and had children in Indiana. Around 1835, Charles migrated to Adams County, Illinois and married Martha Burke, the daughter of a very prominent farming family there. Seven of their eight children were born there to this union and all but Martha Jane lived to adulthood.
Charles, Zebediah and their families removed to Knox County, Missouri about 1858 and bought farms there. Charles' last son, Henry was born here. (Henry is my grandfather). Charles and Martha both died there and are buried in the Christian Church Cememtery in the town of Millport, a small Northern Missouri town which no longer exists. Both Charles' and Zebediah's families were members of this church.

Children of Charles and Martha:

Martha Jane Ward was born 05 August 1837 Adams County, Illinois and died October 1839 Adams County, Illinois
William J. Ward was born 15 October 1839 Adams County, Illinois.
John B. Ward was born 10 February 1841 Adams County, Illinois and died 29 May 1924 Knox County, Missouri. He married first a Josephine V. Boltz on 02 September 1869 Knox County, Missouri and second a Clydie Mae Painter.
Isaiah A. Ward was born 04 October 1842 Adams County, Illinois and died ca. 1916 near Tulsa, Oklahoma. He married Mary Kathrine Christensen Carr.
David C. Ward was born 08 August 1844 Adams County, Illinois and died 24 December 1916 Knox County, Missouri. He married Almira Lingenfelter on 16 March 1865 in Knox County, Missouri.
Harvey Z. Ward was born 20 December 1849 Adams County, Illinois. He married Rachel Annie Boltz on 02 May 1872 in Knox County, Missouri.
Granville Ward was born 01 September 1852 Adams County, Illinois and died 12 February 1904 Quincy, Illinois.
Henry Harrison Ward was born 15 January 1859 Knox County, Missouri and died 30 September 1929 New Bloomfield, Missouri. He married Viola Bell Eno on 13 September 1892 in Vinata, Oklahoma.

Children of Zebediah (and his wife Martha A.)

William H. Ward was born in Indiana ca. 1832.
Caleb Ward was born Indiana ca. 1834.
Samuel J. ws born in Indiana ca. 1836.
Lydia A. was born in Indiana ca. 1838.

Zebediah Ward was born ca. 1815 in the state of New York. His wife Martha A. was born ca. 1815 in Ohio.

Families closely allied with my line of WARDs include BURKE, ENO, MAXSON, MORGAN, KESSKER, VERMILLION, and PRESTON. Several Union Civil War veterans are documented in the WARD line.

I am desparately seeking parents of Charles WARD of NY and ancestors or decendants of others above and have lots of information to share on them and allied families.
