| John McCutchie Cooper was born in Georgia, possibly Warren County, in about 1816. According to his obituary, he was the oldest son of several small children, when his mother died. The children were evidently sent to live with different families and their father left the county. He had at least one older sister, Martha Ann Cooper, born in about 1814, also in Georgia. Martha married Nathan Meredith in 1829 Newton County, Georgia. She lived in Murray County, GA in 1850, listed as a widow with four children. By 1860, Martha Meredith had moved to McMinn County, Tennessee, where she remained until her death sometime after 1880. John M. Cooper married Permelia Ann Denson in 1838 Walton County, Georgia, and they were the parents of six children: Susan Catherine, Malinda Caroline, William Joseph, James Green, John Hilyar and Thomas Gibson Cooper. The family moved from Georgia to Bienville Parish, Louisiana in about 1846, and were enumerated in that parish in the 1850 census. John M.'s occupation was listed as shoemaker. John M. and Permelia Cooper were part of a small group that constituted a Baptist church at Sparta, Louisiana. John McCutchie Cooper died June 18, 1852, from an accidental gun shot wound. Permelia later married Peter G. Thompson in Bienville Parish, Louisiana, then later moved to Texas, living with one of her sons until her death in 1881 in Bell County, Texas. I am looking for the parents of John McCutchie and Martha Ann Cooper, as well as any information about their siblings and descendants. |
