* JANELLE MORROW WALKER WARDEN ANCESTRY*

Updated September 11, 2010

Greetings from JANELLE MORROW WALKER WARDEN

My interest is GENEALOGY! BACON, BARKLEY, BARRON, BARNES, CARSON, CARTER, CHURCH, DEACON, BRABSON, ELLIS, GRAHAM, HUNT, INGERSOLL, MARTIN, MATHEWS, NUNES, ROBERTSON, ROSS, SHREVE, STANLEY, STEELE, WALLACE, WARDEN, WARREN, WELLES are the main surnames I am researching.

We are still separated by a giant ocean but through research and DNA we are learning more about the WARDEN family. It turns out we are matched with the Haplogroup J2L24L25 which began in the Middle East. Our common paternal ancestor lived 4000 BC or 200 generations ago in the Middle East. What an incredible story!

The George Robertson Warden family of New York, New York

We know that the name "Warden" means "Guardian" or "keeper" So in the Roman ages were we regarded as keepers of the gates?

Our "WARDEN" line can be traced back to 1770 with Thomas Warden born about 1774 in England ; his son George Warden born 1808 in Chaddesley, Corbett, Worcester England. Grandson Thomas Warden born 1843 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England made his way to New York about 1865 and on February 15, 1869 he married in the Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, New York to Barbara Robertson.

Sometime around 1880 Barbara made her way to Balclutha, New Zealand with sons Charles Howard and George Robertson Warden where the boys received their education. Charles graduating from college in 1890 became a headmaster and instructor in school and George returning to New York with his mother received higher schooling and became Comptroller for Abraham & Strauss and DePina Dept Stores in New York City until his retirement. Charles and George referred to their families that their dad, Thomas Warden, was a fine man. On Charles Warden marriage certificate it says his father was a "Gentleman". Just recently found the death for Thomas Warden November 23, 1875 Richardson St., E Providence, Rhode Island. He died of an aneurysm of the aorta. I have in my possession a garnet locket with a picture of Thomas. Barbara must have wore this locket for 29 years until her death. Was Barbara into genealogy since she went to New Zealand where her dad George Robertson's brother James Robertson was living?

The maternal side of Barbara Robertson Warden can be traced to Glen Shee & Cray, Perth, Scotland where her father George Robertson was born. It is here we see a connection to the families of Graham, Gow and Ayson. George may have had a brother James Robertson who married Margaret Ayson and after raising a family they made their way to Balclutha, New Zealand about 1856 the same time that George Robertson made his way from Waterford, Ireland with his wife Barbara Sharp and daughters Jane, Barbara and Ellen Robertson. We know Barbara died in New York City and is buried in East Providence, Rhode Island ; her dad and sisters may be buried there as well ; George and his family are buried in Amityville, Long Island, New York.

Thanks to the Warden DNA project we are able to go back in time.
