* John Ward's Loxley Origins in Hallamshire*

Updated January 31, 2003

Just an ordinary family heritage ! My maternal line claiming descendancy from the Earl of Huntingdon through Robertus de Locksley (aka Robin Hood); ancestors who laid deep foundations in Sheffield in the cutlery and printing trades through "Thomas Firth & Sons", the steelmagnates, and "Loxley Brothers" the Printers". Other lines produced a world champion of "Knur & Spell", Yorkshire County Cricketers and a world renowned artist - Francis Bacon (1909-1992).
Associated families include: Bacon, Bailey, Bower, Broomhead, Copley, Dickinson, Drabble, Firth, Hickson, Hobson, Howson, Ibotson, Pagden, Revill, Rich, Shaw, Stones, Trulove, Wyke.
Associated Places include: Bradfield, Chapeltown, Ecclesfield, Sheffield, Sprotbrough, Thorpe Hesley, Thorpe Salvin, Tickhill.

My paternal line appears to originate in Kent, particularly in Rochester and Milton next Gravesend. Also links in Hesket-in-the-Forest,Cumbria. Names include: Beaumont, Brady, Braddy, Lewis, Morton, Ward, Younger.

My wife has a very interesting line on her PYKETT maiden name.
Her family appear to originate around the Marston area of South Lincolnshire and is traceable to the time of the English Civil war of 1642.
