Bauer's Co. of the Corps recruited by Nicholas Dietrich, Baron de Ottendorff, 1777, in Pennsylvania. This continental corp merged into Armand's Legion in 1780.In 1781, served as a corporal in Capt. John Barbarie's New Jersey Volunteers, 3rd Regiment (Loyalist) at Ft. Ninety Six, SC. The British troops evacuated the fort in 1781, moving east to Ft. Granby, below present-day Columbia, SC.Ten miles above Fort Granby was Saxe Gotha, an established community of German speakingLutherans.John George Bamberg was ordained in 1789, at the second meeting of the Unio Ecclesiastica of the German Protestant Churches in the State of South Carolina.His signature appears on the original constitution of this group in 1788.Rev. Bamberg served Zion Church, Lexington District from 1782 until his resignation in 1798.He moved to Barnwell District,SC on lands granted to him on the Big Salkchatchie River.His son, John Frederick Bamberg, remained in South Carolina.
