Find Family

We are searching for our ancestors from Germany, Prussia, Alsayce Lorraine, England, Scotland and Ireland and perhaps France.
Joyces' Diebel Family has remained very elusive. There is a large Diebel population in Canada (researched & published by Marilyn Baron )and that is where her GGGrandfather, Johann Heinrich Diebel (AKA Henry) settled sometime between 1845 and 1855 in Wilmott Twonship, near Tavistock in a little town called Victoriaburg - or Shingletown. There were several other Diebels who settled in the same area - and we suspect that we are related , but have not yot been able to find a source to prove a connection. Joyce has been told by her Grandmother that a Diebel GGGGrandfather was a Hession Mercenary for the British in the Revolutionary War. He returned home and his descendants( son Johann Heinrich -known as Henry) went to Canada to claim his land grants which were part of his payment for fighting for the British. The family of Johann Heinrich Diebel 1811-1884 (born in Lingelbach, Hessen, Germany)and Margaretha (unknown believed to be Bernhardt or Koch) 1817-1890 (also born in Germany) came to Huron County, Michigan in 1880 - with their family of 4 children(this may have been a 2nd marriage for Henry????) to join their eldest daughter Barbara Diebel Ruppert (Mrs. Henry) in Huron County, Sebewaing, MI. Barbara was born circa 1842 and the next child was born in 1856 - leading us to believe that perhaps Barbara had a different mother and there may be more children from the first marriage????? They brought with them their children, John (Johann), Henry (Heinrich), Margaretha, and Mary (who later became Mrs. Gottleib Kuhn). Both of the parents are buried in the Unionville, MI Moravian Church Cemetery. I am still tracing the families that descend from them. The descendants of son John are my family and are documented. I have found census records that Henry married a lady named Louise Lobdell in Michigan and they lived in Huron County in the late 1800s & early 1900s with 2 children, Leland and Eunice, next they are found in Flint, Mi in the 1910 census and have added a daughter Clara, and in the 1920 census, Henry is living in Wayne Co., MI Detroit and Louise and Leland are no longer listed- he is living with Eunice and Clara. In the 1930 census, Clara is living with her married sister Eunice, who is married to a man named Ralph Horn and their 2 children, and Henry is not in the census, although his niece Louise Diebel Smith reported that she thought he returned to Canada. Mary and Gottleib Kuhn also have marriage records, childrens birth records, census records, death records, and property records in Huron County, MI. I have no idea as to the daughter Margaretha, except that Great Aunt Louise Diebel Smith used to tell that she was a spinster and used to stay with each of her siblings ( Mary, John, & Henry) for part of the year.
Louise and John first settled in Sebewaing, where their first three children Andrew, Louise, & Frank were born. They then moved to Winsor Twp, Berne, MI where Frieda, Magdelena, & John V. were born.. They then moved to Pigeon, Mi where their children Louise, Sanford, Hazen, Gertrude, & Julia were born. They are both buried in the Grandlawn Cemetery in Pigeon, MI.
