| This page tells of the Samuel Pollus Ward family of Dale Co.Alabama.Samuel was born in 1792 in South Carolina in Edgefield Co.Samuel served in the War of 1812 in Capt. Matthew Hodges co.of the Ga.Mil.Sam enrolled in Marion,Twiggs Co.Ga.After the war Sam married Nancy Leonard who was born in 1797 in Ga.They were married in Marion,Twiggs Co. Ga.in the home of James Wheeler on the 8 day of June 1815.Samuel pollus was 6 ft.2 inch. tall,black headed,gray eyes and very dark.Samuel and Nancy lived in Twiggs Co. Ga.for 4 years,Henry Co. Al.for 18 years and in Dale for 42 years.Samuel died in Dec.1868. After Samuel's death in 1868 his oldest son James Robert left Al. and moved to Texas.James left his widow mother in Al. with his sister Nancy Ward Woodham,(Nancy married Richard Ira Woodham ) to look after.James left war ravaged Al. with his wife Adoline Westemire and the rest of his family.James crossed the Mississippi River on a flat boat They travled in A Conestoga wagon.They arrived in Panola Co. Texas on the 23 of Feb.1869.After they settled in Clayton,Tx.thier daugther Sopheniz Epsy Adoline married Thomas Jefferson Windham.The rest of James's family moved on and settled in Van Zant CO. Texas.
