Charles Mouton married his first wife, Marie Arthemise Dugas in 1817 when he was 20 years old and she was 14 years old. Their first child (with name unknown) died at only one month old, eleven months after their marriage. Their second child, Charles Darmas, was born the following February. (Charles Darmas later died at the age of 20, 8 years before his father's death.) Marie died at the age of 18, one year later, in 1820. A year and a half after his first wife's death, in 1821, Charles, 24, remarried to Marie Latiolais, who was 18 years old. They later had 18 children, 15 of whom reached maturity. (Three children died in childhood in 1829, 1842, and 1847.)
When Charles died in 1847, at the age of 50, his wife was 44, and their living children were Jean, probably 25; HOMERE, 23; Orther, 21; Eraste, 20; Nisidia, 17; Marthe (or Delila), 15; Euchariste, probably 14; Lezima, 14; Charles Rosemond Gessner, 13; Zesnaire, 12; Ophelia, 11; Hortense (or Alice), 8; Elena, 6; Eugenie, 4; "Unknown" child, 7 months old (who would later die at 11 months old). Charles' last child, Jean Persifont, would be born 7 months after his father's death (and less than 3 weeks after his older sibling's death, name "Unknown".)
