During Obediah's absence during the Civil War his family endured many hardships, Enemy soldiers came to the homestead once and frightened the mother and children by taking animals and killing chickens. On the last morning home, prior to leaving for the war, O.B. Beene took his baby son in his arms and walked around outside for a long while. When he came back into the house,he handed the baby to its mother and said with tears in his eyes "I feel like I'll never see my son alive again". Evidently he had a premonition of his baby son's death because little Russel died of dysentery before his fathers return and was buried in Mississippi.
Sallie Anna and Mary Elizabeth died in their youth. The remaining sons and daughter all married and had familys of their own. All living either in Freestone or Limestone County the greater part of their lives. Mary and O.F. Beene are buried in Old Union Cemetery in Freestone County, Texas along with W. Obediah, Robert L., W. Dixon and their wives.
