| I am researching and seeking information regarding my great-grandfather, David (George) Washington. He was known as George. He married Victoria Faw (Reeves) on April 16, 1895. We discovered (in August 2002), through a 1900 census record, that George was born in July of 1874 in North Carolina. According to the census report his parents were born in North Carolina as well. That is the only information on them. George was killed by either a trolley car or train in the winter of 1906 or 1907, we're not sure which. The name Esther Washington was found in a family Bible as being born on April 1, 1890, but that is the only other family member that we are aware of. I am actively seeking George's ancestors and any additional information that may be available. Victoria's family has been traced back to Jacob Pfau of Switzerland in 1723. The famous pioneer, Daniel Boone, was also my great-uncle on Victoria’s side. George and Victoria had one child, a son, Clarence Marvin Washington, Sr., born on November 23, 1899. Clarence married Naomi Beck in 1917 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and the family moved to Annapolis, Maryland around 1940. Naomi's parents were James Marshall Beck and Alice Richardson. Clarence was a baker until he developed asthma and the flours irritated his condition. He retired as a guard at the Naval Academy where he worked for many years. Naomi was a homemaker and raised their children: Clarence Jr. (C.M.), George, Opal, Betty, Peggy, Bill (or William, my father), Ruth, Paul, Martha, Jim, and Dotti. In addition, I'm researching my wife's ancestors. Her father, Peter Edward Eklund, was born April 14, 1933 in Joliet, Illinois. He now resides in Indiana. Her mother, Hedwig (Heidi) Plattner, was born February 11, 1923 in Schmerin, Austria and grew up in and around Zirl and Salsburg, Austria. Heidi was one of 12 children, 2 boys and 10 girls. Heidi had a son, Johann (Johnny) Plattner, born out of wedlock in Innsbruk, Austria on August 4, 1950. Pete was in the U.S. Army stationed in Austria in the early to mid-50's. Pete and Heidi married in 1953 or 1954. Any information would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have. |
