Notes for Clifton A Washington:
Clifton and Callie had six sons from their union.
Clift retired from GNB (a large battery company) in Florence, Mississippi after 24 years.Prior to working for GNB, he had worked for the Swift Company in Jackson, Mississippi until it went out of business.Clift was also a farmer who raised cattle and several different seed crops. He was exceedingly active at Brown Hill M.B. Church where he served on the Deacon Board for over 32 years and as Assistant superintendent and superintendent of the Sunday School. He also held positions as Chairman of the "Deacon Board"; president of the male choir; and treasurer of the church.
Callie worked for Rankin County as a school bus driver for 21 years and as the manager for the school cafeteria for 10 years. An outstanding cook, she loved to fish, travel and work in her yard which was beautifully maintained.
Callie and Clift were the heart and soul of the Florence branch of the Washington family. They could both be counted upon to "do the right thing."Both were always ready with smiles and/or helping hands. They exhibited a very strong sense of family which was evidenced by their actions and deeds. However, their kindness and godliness were not limit to just family.Their home was always open to family, extended family and friends -- alike.Different family members spoke of how Clift had almost single-handily maintained and kept the family farm and even improved upon it.Both Callie and Clift radiated that "light"which made all who met them feel very happy and welcomed to around them.
In short, they were very good people.
