Barbara & Colin Watts Family History Pages

Updated April 10, 2009

I have now been researching since 2001.

Surnames I am looking for are:

BALL (Benjamin, a carman b.cir 1877 d.circ 1922) Also served in the 2nd Boer War and was pensioned off. When he died, his funeral was paid for by his regiment, Royal Horse Artillery, and the coffin was carried on a gun carriage. Benjamin m. Elizabeth COOPER(b.abt 1877 d. 1944) 8 Feb 1903.

REID Henry - one was a tobacco pipe manufacturer in Commercial Road, London (b.abt 1877)

MULCOCK - one [Thomas] was a Mineral Water Manufacturer in Commercial Road, London (b.abt. 1877)

WARNE Frederick - Frederick worked as a Cocktail barman at the Hotel Cecil (he worked for himself, a sort of franchise) and was later a Bookies runner, died in 1934 - it is rumoured that his father Albert WARNE was the black sheep from Frederick WARNE & Sons. Albert committed suicide in his shop in Gaywood Street, London

BEESTON - One was a tobacco pipe manufacturer)It is rumoured that the family has links with BEESTON castle (Nottinghamshire I believe). Robert BEESTON (b.circ. 1879 when he married Harriet Matilda MULCOCK (nee REID)

COOPER from the London area, such as Lambeth, Bermondsey and Ilford in Essex. The COOPERS are supposed to originate from the Romanis in Ilford and the French/Spanish border (Huegonauts possibly?) with the surname of JACQUES although I believe this was changed to JAGGARS. The dates I am looking at currently are the 1800-1940s. These are the ancestors of my family BALL.

Two COOPER Brothers,Walter and William, went (approx 1913)to Australia and started or worked on a stud farm. in NSW. Walter fought in WW1 for Australia. They are believed to be ancestors of Ashley COOPER the Australian Tennis Player from the 1960s.

WATTS (Sidney George born 1908 had 6 brothers and 6 sisters, all sisters died in infancy). area South London.

JEWELL, from London but originating from Clovelly, Devon.

GALLAGHER are from the South London areas such as Blackheath, Forest Hill, Islington and Welling.

I am willing to share any information that I have. I have some marriage certificates for REID and MULCOCK dated 1877 and 1889.

regards
Barbara

Family Photos

  • Benjamin BALL and Elizabeth COOPER wedding day (88 KB)
This is a restored photo, the original was very torn and marked. Elizabeth COOPER's grandparents were called JACQUES. I have since found out that they were married on 8 February 1903 at St.Pauls Church in the parish of St.Mary Newington.
  • A photo of me (77 KB)
I often go to sites and see lots of old photos but never one of the person who is asking for information. So here is a photo of me for all those who are interested.
  • 3 Wise Monkeys for Craig & Mel (188 KB)
    Three of my grandchildren
