During research these past 8 years to find my Meadows ancestors, I've discovered there are quite a few "Meadows" in West Virginia that may or may not be relatives. My grandfather was Charles Lewis Meadows born July 20,1886 in Monroe County WV and my grandmother was Bertha Alma Crotty born March 24, 1890 in Monroe Co, WV. They moved to California where we lived around 1952 (before my twin brothers were born) and lived here until they both died in the 60's. Upon their deaths, they were both buried at Ellison Cemetery, Rock Camp in Monroe County, WV. My father, Ernest was one of eleven children (9 boys, 2 girls). During my research I've found ties to the names: On my grandmother's side: Crotty, including her great grandfather Michael Crotty who came from Ireland to America abt 1813, Elizabeth Workman (my grandmother's mother)whose descendants came from Holland, Elizabeth Riffe (my grandfather's mother)and her mother's father, Robert Clark was first cousin to Clark (of the "Lewis and Clark Expedition") also Bugge from England around the 1500's. I've recently discovered my grandfather's father's ancestors came from Germany. I now know my heritage is: German, Irish, English, and Dutch on my father's side, I'm still working on my mother's side of Hobbs and Scott. Please email me if you have additional information or corrections. thanks, Brenda Meadows Wattenbarger |
