1. JOHN1 ALLENDER was born 1769 in perhaps Ireland, and died September 12, 1834 in Hickory, Pennsylvania. He married (1) ???UNKNOWN Abt. 1796. He married (2) MARGARET MILLIGAN Abt. 1810, daughter of THOMAS MILLIGAN and ELIZABETH ?. She was born Abt. 1781 in prob. Ireland, and died July 30, 1870 in Guernsey County, Ohio.

OHN ALLENDER:
The first generation of our Allender line, known in this country, to date. John is first found in Smith Twp., PA. Tax Records 1814 - 1818 show him with 1 horse and 2 cattle. Also listed were John and Thomas Haney. More Tax records for John reveal that he moved to MT. Pleasant Twp., between 1819 and 1820. At that time, he had 80 acres, 2 horses, and 3 cows. The 1828 records state that he had 180 acres, 4 horses, and 3 cows. The last entry was in 1833. He is buried in MT. Pleasant Cemetery, Washington County, Hickory, PA. (John had a brother George, say some researchers, who spent many years in Kentucky, before moving to Ohio in 1826.) Some time between 1835 and 1840, John's wife Margaret, and their children, Thomas, James and Isabelle, move to Guernsey CO., OHIO.

ARGARET MILLIGAN:
During 1837, Margaret, John's wife, bought 160 acres for $1400, from Abraham Scott, in Guernsey CO., Ohio. the land was located at coordinates 17/14/1 in this county. She sold this land to a John A. Works for $2000. During 1849, she bought 117 acres from William Smith, for $1850. She sold this land to James A. Tuttle for $2000. She bought 42 acres during 1845 from John Reed for $800. She sold this land to James Stopher for $500. Her husband had died prior to 1837 and she purchased land under a widows privilege. In the 1840 census, Margaret was listed as head of household, between 50-60 years old and living with children at home. She died in 1880 at the age of 89y, 6m, 24d. She is buried at McCleary's U.P. Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Guernsey County, OHIO. In the 1860 census, she is listed as a farmer. Living with her are Isabel 35yr, born in PA, and Margaret 19, a seamstress, born in PA.
