Raised by his mother's Sister Elizabeth Phillips at Hardy Twp., Holmes County, Ohio. 1880 Census in Claysville, Washington County, Pa., He owned a blacksmith shop and for many years was the town assessor. 1900 Census, Claysville, Boro, Washington County, PA. still owns blacksmith shop. He died suddenly at his home, while shaving. Both Robert and Alice are buried at Claysville Cemetery Lot E68.

A carpenter by trade. 1880 Census of W. Findley Township, Washington County, PA. Also lived on East Side of Washington Pke, Bridgeville, PA. Served in the Civil War. Company K, 16th PA Cav. 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division. He was honorably discharged on Jun 17, 1865 at Lynchburg, VA. One source says he died in 1925. The Marshman's are mentioned in the Bridgeville, PA , historic book, "Bridging The Years", Vol 1, pg. 58.
