I went through some old baby books over the weekend and found that the dates for Mary Christmas as born Feb. 29, 1844 and died Feb. 5, 1944. I had always heard that she died just short of her 100th birthday. I have a letter that belonged to my grandmother from the Adjutant General's Office dated Mar. 2, 1942, showing That John T. Graham was a private of Co. E, 2nd Regiment South Carolina Infantry (2nd Palmetto Regiment) CSA. He enlisted April 8, also shown as April 9, 1861, at Camden, S.C., age 17 years. He was appointed corporal July 3, 1863, and promoted to sergeant of the company, April 1, 1864. The company muster roll for May and June, 1864, last on file, shows him present. Other records show that he was admitted to Jackson Hospital, Richmond, VA, August 7, 1864, and returned to duty, August, 19, 1864. His name appears on a receipt roll for clothing which shows date of issue as Sept. 30, 1864.
Mary Jane Christmas (b. Feb. 29, 1844; d. Feb. 5, 1944) was one of 18 children (1st born) to Lucinda Permelia Reville (b. Dec. 16, 1825, in Augusta, GA and daughter of Hardy Reville and Elizabeth George) and William Jerome Christmas of Sumter County, S.C. (b. Nov. 27, 1818 and d. Feb. 23, 1902, in the Sandhill section of Richland County). Wm. Jerome Christmas was an overseer in Darlington Co. S.C. They moved from Darlington Co. to Kershaw Co. buying a plantation called "Pender Hill" on the Wateree River. Other moves placed them in Fairfield Co. (8 yrs.), back to the Wateree River (6 Yrs.), and then to the Sandhills near Brown's Chapel.
