Notes for Simeon Lafayette Watkins:.He was known to everyone as "Sim" Watkins.When Sim was one year old his family moved to Auglaize County, Ohio, where they lived for 18 years before returning to Shelby County.He was married to LULA MAE STONE May 25, 1890 at Anna in Shelby County, at the residence of Rev. D. B. Rinehart who performed the ceremony.Lula was the daughter of WILLIAM STONE and HARRIET LIPPS and was born November 25, 1872 in Shelby County, Ohio, and died August 27, 1957 in Pasco, Shelby County, Ohio.
Sim and Lula were members of the Church of Christ, Pt. Jefferson, Ohio, where Sim served as a deacon of the church for many years.Lula had also belonged to the Sidney Church of Christ.Sim was one of the best known farmers of Jackson Township and lived on the same farm for many years before moving to a home at 311 East North Street, Sidney, six months before his death.
In 1937 a stroke resulting in paralysis had left Sim in a wheelchair, but his death was caused by an accident and was not the result of the stroke.Sim had been attending a show given by the Kinsey Komedy Company at Gramercy park in Sidney late on a Saturday evening and was being pushed in his wheelchair by a family friend, Frank Mawhorr, across East Court Street around 11:00 p.m. when an automobile driven by a 19 year old boy from Indiana struck Sim and Mawhorr fatally injuring Sim.
