"Benjamin Bierly Our Great Grandfather" Early 1700 to 1800's Son of Jacob C. Bierly and Mary Magdalene Ruhl
The earliest record we have to date is, that Great grandfather Benjamin Bierly came out of Sugar valley per Donald Paul Slopey. Benjamin was born 1883 died 1928, Anna Mae was born 1845 died 1927. Benjamin was married to Anna Mae Beck Bierly. He settled in Youngsdale where mothers father, Charles Henry Bierly was born . Charles Henry Bierly married Meta Olivia Walker November 11, 1896 and they had three children as far as we can fine out. Harold Bertrum Bierly was the oldest son, Carrimae Anna Bierly Koch (Our mother) their only daughter and oldest child, and Walter Leroy Bierly their youngest son. After Meta Olivia Walker Bierly died Charles Henry Bierly remarried so our mother had some step brothers and sisters but to date I have no information on them. We have some pictures, donated by Donald Slopey showing some of the family and if we can duplicate them we can explain who some of the people are in the picture. Donald Slopey is the former husband of Sylvia June Koch Slopey Mackenzie daughter of Carrimae Anna Bierly Koch.
Benjamin Bierly was a tailor and also a contractor. He installed the Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania, Sewer System. Donald Slopey said his grandfather, Elmer E.Slopey worked for our Great Grandfather in his youth. Elmer E. Slopey later married Benjamin's daughter Roberta Bierly Slopey, who would have been our great aunt, hence we both have the same great grandfather and great grandmother. From what Donald Slopey heard, our great grandfather was a short man but could outwork any two men.
Benjamin Bierly and his brother are buried in the Youngsdale Cemetery. Their names are both on the Civil War Memorial in the Cemetery. There were two younger daughters in the picture Don sent. One was Austilla Maude Bierly Quigley, who was the better looking one in the picture and the other one is Mae BierlyWomeldorf . Notes:
In Picture #1 the elderly couple are Benjamin and Anna Mae. Charles is sitting beside his father and Roberta Bierly Slopey is standing behind her father. The other two girls are Maude and Mae.
In Picture # 2 the man sitting is Benjamin Bierly. The woman sitting is Anna Mae Beck Bierly our great grandmother . (Also Donald Slopey's) The woman standing behind Benjamin is Roberta Bierly Slopey (His Grandmother). The boy in the picture is Charles Henry Bierly (Our Grandfather). Donald Slopey's father was named after our grandfather Charles Henry . The two little girls are Austilla Maude Bierly Quiggle and Mae Bierly Womeldorf.
