1. JOHN⁸ BREWER (HOWELL⁷, GEORGE G.⁶, JOHN⁵, JOHN⁴, JOHN³, THOMAS², WILLIAM¹) was born 1738 in Virginia, and died 1824 in Chatham County North Carolina. He married AMEY MEREDITH. She was born in Brunswick County Virginia.

Although John didn't list any daughters in his will, I read somewhere that he had 4 0r 5 girls. I can't remember the

It is believed that John Brewer, Sr. was born sometime
around the year 1738. His parents are unknown. His wife's name
is unknown. If John was married only once then there were at
least 12 children born of his marriage.

It appears from census records of Chathham County, North
Carolina, 1790-1810, that John Brewer, Sr. had six sons and six
daughters. Five sons have been identified. Three sons would
have been born after 1774 since he had three sons under age 16
in 1790.

In a receipt from the state of North Carolina, Chatham
County, John Brewer was paid four pounds, seventeen shillings,
specie for fodder and sheaves of oats by act of assembly in
such cases made. This is dated May 19, 1782.

The settling of John Brewers estate by his son Nathan, who
was the administrator, was recorded in Chatham County, North
Carolina and was noted as follows: "Know all Men by these
Presents, that Nathan Brewer, John Bray and John Deaton made
payment of five hundred dollars to Thomas Clegg, Chairman, or
other Justices of the County of Chatham to bind themselves,
their Heirs, Executors and Administrators, jointly and
severally, firmly by these Presents. Sealed with our seals and
dated this 10th day of May 1824.
The Condition of the above Obligation is such, that if the
above bounden Nathan Brewer, Administrator of all and singular
the Goods and Chattels, Rights and Credits of John Brewer,
Sen., deceased, do make or cause to be made, a true and perfect
Inventory of all and singular the Goods and Chattels, Rights
and Credits of the said deceased."

Jane Grave had a sister by the name of Hannah that married a
Conner Dowd. Jane could have had another sister by the name of
Mary, or this could be another relative since there is a
listing in the Quaker Cane Creek monthly meeting minutes
stating: " Minutes of 7 Jan. 1775. Mary ( formerly Grave)
disowned, married out of unity."
