The Watson's of Lake Chelan, Washington
The Watson family, in the form of J. Howard Watson, first arrived at Lake Chelan on February 8,1892 and shortly thereafter posted a "Notice of Claim and Location".Four years later (in March of 1896), J. Howard filed his homestead application for 156 acres of land at First Creek. My grandfather, Harold Mathew Watson, grew up in the Chelan area and subsequently developed what became known as "Watson's Harveren Resort".My parents (Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harold Watson, Sr.), as well as my brother (Robert Harold Watson, Jr.)and his children (Mandy Marie Watson, Robert Harold Watson, III, Donald Gerald Watson and Hayley Lee Watson), are the third, fourth and fifth generations to make their home on the shores of the glacier-fed lake from which the nearby town takes its name. The son of Joseph Watson and Rebecca Spoule (both from Tyrone, Ireland), J. Howard was married to Katherine "Kitty" Irish. They had one son, Harold Mathew Watson.Harold Watson was my Grandfather.Maternal great-grandparents on my father's side include: Albert Alfred Nathaniel Greenleaf State (whom either he, or his father, had emigrated from Sweden) and John Anderson (who at one time lived in Waitsburg, Washington). We know that some descendents on my mother's side of the family had also emigrated from Europe in the early 1800's.George Foland (my great, great grandfather) supposedly came here directly from Ireland. Unfortunately, we have very little information on this side of the family.Other family names include:August Yeager (from Central Washington), Charles Anderson Stevenson (who lived most of his early life in Iowa and Kansas) and Lydia Peryl Ross (also from Kansas, but who moved to Washington with her children in the early 1900's). I am new to this endeavor and look forward to developing and improving this site in the months and years ahead.I look forward to hearing from some of you and to sharing information that may help us learn more about our shared past. | The Watson's of Lake Chelan, Washington Updated October 2, 2003 |
