Notes for Allen Easter Ericson Weatherford: [Christmas - Cash - Walker - Weatherford.FTW]
The first record of Allen is where he appears in the 1910 US Census in his parents' household in Charlottesville, VA. Since it was unlawful at the time for blacks to be educated beyond the ninth grade in the city of Charlottesville, he has encouraged by his uncle (Benjamin Tonsler, school principal) to leave home for further education. He did so, and went to Hampton Institute. It is known that he obtained his BA Degree there.
Allen never returned home to live, and went on to obtain a MA, and subsequently the PHD Degree. I have heard it said that his was the first such degree conferred upon an African American in the area of Physical Education and Recreation.
At the time of his death, Allen was Chairman of the Department of Physical Education and Recreation at North Carolina College in Durham, NC.
